Hey guys, my name is Phyllis Kenigsberg and I’m a new staff member at Beach Hillel. A little about me: I recently graduated with a B.A. in Judaic Studies from the University of Arizona, I’m a huge football fan and I love to sing. Now I want to learn all about you! The Party is ON This Summer at Camp Jewlicious!!

Jewlicious Festivals is proud to announce our first ever summer festival, Camp Jewlicious. It’s a Jewlicious Festival, but in the summer, and at camp.

Over four days and three nights, students and young professionals from SoCal and beyond will gather at a beautiful Jewish camp and retreat center In the hills of Simi Valley, just forty-five minutes from Los Angeles at Brandeis Bardin Campus of American Jewish University.

On top of tons of outdoor summer fun, acoustic concerts and a huge Sat. night concert, you also have a unique opportunity to learn how to promote and empower your cause from the best of the best at our first ever Grassroots Organizing Summit.

As usual, we’re having a fantastic shabbat dinner this week, Friday night at 6:30 PM at the Kaplans’ home.

But this week is extra special because we’re having a pre-finals bonfire as well!!!
Join Beach Hillel at 6 PM at Huntington Beach State Beach, at the corner of Warner and PCH. We’ll be offering rides from CSULB at 5:15, but you must email rachel@beachhillel.org to arrange a ride.
We’ll have kosher hot dogs, parve kosher s’mores, and other treats! Bring your friends and your instruments!

Israel Week 2010 Begins Tonight!

Beach Hillel’s Israel Week 2010 begins tonight with a special Israeli shabbat dinner at the Kaplans’, with guests Raaya, an Israeli college student, and Nadav, an IDF soldier.

Then the festivities continue all next week!

Beach Hillel Office at CSULB Moved

Beach Hillel’s office on campus at CSULB has been moved on account of the flooding of the first floor of the University Student Union (USU).

Interfaith Center Space in USU under renovations

For years, Beach Hillel had had an office within the Interfaith Center on the first floor of the USU. However, with the recent flooding in January due to bursting pipes in the USU, the entire first floor of the USU was damaged. Although the first floor has recently opened in the last few weeks, the space in which the Interfaith Center has been is not anywhere near ready for any offices just yet.

New Interfaith Office Space in Brotman Hall

In the meantime, however, the Interfaith Center has been relocated to the first floor of Brotman Hall in room 178. While this space is not as easy to find as the previous space in the USU, we have this space for the time being.

Rabbi Drew is a Punk!

OK, not what it sounds like…

All I meant was that Rabbi Drew became a member of a select group of Jewish people doing interesting things who have been interviewed by Patrick Aleph of PunkTorah.com. Here’s the interview taken at the tail end of the recent Jewlicious Festival in Long Beach:

Rabbi Drew certainly seemed animated! I can’t decide if it’s because of the energy and exuberance that the Festival inspires or if it’s simply because of nervous exhaustion occasioned by the hard work he and Rachel did all weekend! What do you think?

Hebrew Hammers Back on the Field!

The Hebrew Hammers have returned to the field for Spring 2010!

Our first game of the season went off without a hitch, followed by our traditional pizza party at Avenue 3.

It’s not too late to join the team! Please contact ebanarie@gmail.com ASAP to reserve your space.

The following are the dates of the rest of the Hammers’ games for this season (all games begin at 5:30 PM): March 9, March 16, March 23, April 6, April 13, April 20.
If we advance to the playoffs, our final game(s) of the season will be on April 27.

Come out and support the team!!!!
The Hebrew Hammers play on the CSULB softball field, which is located off of Atherton behind the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.
